My personal life may stink but at least I am getting some results in lab.

Here in Colorado, temperatures have been falling below freezing for about three weeks, and my favorite sampling lake is starting to ice over. Needless to say, I was sure that all the microbiota in the local waterways would be in hibernation by now–but they’re not. They’re still quite active, affecting water chemistry in the ways I like to measure.
